Fair questions.
The things contractors actually ask before putting their business on someone else’s software — answered plainly.
Is it really free?
Yes. Skllbid is free right now — every feature, no credit card, no trial clock. Paid plans will come later, and we’ll say so plainly before anything changes. You will never be silently charged, and your data is yours to export whether you stay or go.
What do my subs see?
A sub opens their link and sees the jobs you put them on: the scope, the address, their role, and their own pay status — what you owe them and what you’ve paid them. They log their work, upload their WCB and insurance certificates, and hand links to their own crew. That’s the whole view.
Can my subs see my margins?
No — and not as a setting you could get wrong. The portal is built so your customer pricing and your margins are never sent to a sub’s browser in the first place. A sub sees the amount you agreed to pay them, and nothing about what the customer is paying you.
Do my workers see money?
Never. Worker links show the work: the job, the tasks, the time clock. No pay amounts, no pricing, no invoices — not theirs, not yours, not anyone’s. Money on a worker’s screen is a problem we chose to make impossible rather than optional.
What does my customer see?
Only what you send them. A proposal link shows the scope and the price, with an approve button. A track link shows where their job stands and what phase comes next. An invoice shows what’s owed and what’s been paid. They never see your costs, your crew’s hours, or your other jobs.
Do my subs or customers need to install an app or make an account?
No. Everything you send outside your company — the sub portal, proposals, track links, invoices — opens from a link in any browser. No download, no account, no password. If they can open a text message, they can use it.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Skllbid is a web app built phone-first, so it runs in the browser on any reasonably modern phone, tablet, or computer — nothing to install, nothing to update. You can add it to your home screen and it behaves like an app.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Your jobs and invoices export to CSV today — files that open in Excel or Google Sheets — and more exports are coming. Your data is yours; the export button is how we keep ourselves honest about that.
What happens to my data if I leave?
Export it first — it’s yours. Then, if you want your account and records deleted, ask and we’ll do it. We don’t hold your business history hostage to keep you around; the product has to earn that on its own.
Is my data isolated from other companies?
Yes. Every row in the database is stamped with your company, and the database itself refuses to hand any of it to anyone outside your company — a protection called row-level security that applies even if our own application code has a bug. Link pages (portal, track, proposal) show only the slice you deliberately shared.
What exactly is the demo?
One tap on Try the live demosigns you into a seeded showroom company — real jobs, a proposal, an invoice with a partial payment, a sub on the portal. Poke at everything. Nothing you do there touches anyone’s real business.
I haven't even started my company yet. Too early?
That’s what the Launchpad is for: a step-by-step walk through starting a trades company in BC — name, registration, GST, WorkSafeBC, insurance, bank — with your progress saved as you go. You come out the other side with a company, and it’s already running on Skllbid.
Still wondering something? The demo answers most of it in two minutes.
